The Highlights of 2021 Sports and Recreational Courses
2021 is coming to an end, so does the Sports and Recreational Courses.
Whenever we went to the gym, we forgot the exhaustion, released the pressure together, and enjoyed the time of fitness.
The Sports and Recreational Course is a series of long-term leisure courses offered by PEU, HSS, aiming to introduce different kinds of cool and interesting high-quality sports group courses, to meet the needs of slimming and shaping oneself, improving health, and developing sports potential. Therefore, all students and staff may experience the fun of sports and cultivate healthy living habits at the same time.
The 2021 Sports and Recreational Courses attracted more than 1200 applicants, and eventually, more than 200 staff and students took part in it. What kinds of sports are included in the courses? Why are they so popular? Will there be a new session next semester? Let’s have a look together!
Junior Boxing Course
Boxing course is so popular that they run out of places each time as soon as available. The game is not just for males. More than half the class is made up of females. Under the guidance of our coach, students knew about boxing gloves, learned to tie the strap, took rope ladder training for the first time, and so on.
Rope ladder training helps students to exercise their flexibility and balance; rope skipping helps to enhance the coordination of hands and feet while improving cardiopulmonary function at the same time.
“Keep your fists close to your chin. Remember to protect your chin and head...” the coach repeated, patiently correcting our movements.
Beginners & Advanced Swimming Course
There are two courses for swimming this year, which are beginners and advanced courses.
The beginners' course has 10 lessons. Starting from basic knowledge, the coach instructed students to practice breathing and other movements in detail, helping them master breaststroke.
“When your hands move, keep your legs and remember to raise up your head.” The coach even formulated a set of jingles for the students.
The advanced course mainly focuses on the freestyle stroke, is for those who have already learned breaststroke and can swim on their own. At first, students went back with muscle soreness, finally, they enjoyed the swimming and even mastered the stunners of the wall turn. Students made rapid progress and benefited a lot. The flexible teaching form provided by the coach offered students an interesting experience.
Rock Climbing Course
Rock climbing made its Olympic debut this year in Tokyo.
Rock climbing has made great development in the past 20 years, according to the official website of the Tokyo Olympics. In 1985, a group of climbers assembled at a competition called SportRoccia in Bardonecchia to complete the climbing within a limited time. Since then, with the development of artificial climbing walls, more and more people have had the opportunity to try it.
After the outdoor Climbing Site at Shaw College, the University opened the Indoor Bouldering Gym on September 29, which contains five different difficulty areas.
Due to the enthusiastic anticipation of students and staff, the course has also successfully launched two terms. In this semester, the course is mainly about the rock climbing technique of our hands, feet, and body, as well as some basic climbing skills.
Yoga Course
There are two yoga courses this semester. Each course starts with the basics: Yin Yoga, stretching the deep fascia and tendons of the muscles, and flow yoga to improve flexibility and strengthen our hearts and lungs. In the last three lessons, students were instructed by their coach to challenge some difficult movements.
The coach pointed out the action points in detail. After students became familiar with the basic movements, the coach led them to work through a series of consecutive asanas, from Xiaoyanfei-style, Asanas-Cobra pose, Madariasana to Adho Mukha Svanaasana, which stretch the entire spine.
The 2021 Sports and Recreational courses were officially completed on December 17. PEU expects to launch the registration of the first 2022 Sports and Recreational course in mid-February. In this term, apart from advanced boxing and rock climbing courses, there will be an archery course in addition. Stay tuned for more surprises.
